I just think the use of the term 'surf' when speaking about the internet is dumb. Don't know why, it just is.

My guess is it comes from channel surfing. Is this dumb for the same instinctive reasons (the terminology, that is, the act isn't under discussion)? Or is it only net surfing that is bothersome?

It's a clear case of mixed metaphors: one surfs oceans, not webs. What does one do with webs? Crawl them?
